MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact head into a match with the New York Red Bulls in a position to string together their first three-game winning streak of the season, and its thanks largely to the finishing of striker Marco Di Vaio. Jordan Willis Jersey . After Montreal blew an early two-goal lead against El Salvadors C.D. FAS on Wednesday, Di Vaio scored from the penalty spot in the 60th minute to send his team home with a six-point cushion atop their CONCACAF Champions League group — a group that incidentally contains the Red Bulls. Last week in Major League Soccer action, Frank Klopas men downed the Chicago Fire 1-0 at home on a late winner by Di Vaio — a victory that ended Montreals seven-game losing skid in the league. "Weve won two games in a row, so were happy," Di Vaio told reporters in El Salvador following Montreals 3-2 win on Wednesday. "Were going to play against New York with confidence." A win against the Red Bulls in New York on Saturday would allow the Impact to check off several firsts off their list. Montreal is the only team that has yet to register a road win this season. The clubs last MLS win away from Saputo Stadium dates back to Sept. 8, 2013. You can listen live starting at 7pm/et on TSN 690 Montreal. Whats more, the Impact have never beaten New York on the road in three tries in club history. And the team has not recorded back-to-back victories in MLS in exactly one year. As a result, Montreal (4-14-5) is at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference standings, where the team has dwelled since the beginning of April. Assistant coach Mauro Biello, however, believes the tides are turning. "Obviously, weve had a difficult season in the championship up until now," said Biello from Central America on Wednesday. "Were coming off a win against Chicago, and a big win in El Salvador. Hopefully we can continue to grow and get a few more." Although the last-place Impacts post-season hopes are virtually dead and gone — the team is 11 points out of a playoff spot with 11 games remaining — Montreal could get a big boost from a New York scheduling conundrum. The Red Bulls open their own Champions League campaign against FAS on Tuesday, three days after welcoming the Impact to Red Bull Arena. If manager Mike Petke decides to split his focus between MLS and the CCL, the Impact could face a slightly weaker Red Bulls lineup on Saturday. "Its two completely different competitions," Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush told reporters after Wednesdays victory in San Salvador. "You saw it last year when we were chasing the playoffs. We had to balance our team a little bit differently in those games. (The Red Bulls) are in a position where theyre still fighting for a playoff spot, and well see what kind of team they put on against us." Petke will have a tough decision to make precisely because New York (6-7-10) is in the midst of a very tight playoff race. Currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with 28 points, the Red Bulls have four teams breathing down their necks. Philadelphia, New England, Chicago, and Houston are all within three points of New Yorks fifth and final playoff spot. "Montreal is a huge game, not just because its an MLS game, but because its also a conference game," Petke told reporters over the phone on Tuesday. "Those are huge. Making the playoffs in MLS is extremely important, not only to me and the players, but to the organization. "Were obviously taking Champions League very seriously. Its a very important and great platform for us. The scheduling part about it is not great, but you have to deal with that and you have to figure out what the best route to go is. If I had to put the two competitions next to each other, I wouldnt put one above the other." On Saturday, Montreal will likely see at least some of Bradley Wright-Phillips on the pitch — whether as a starter or substitute remains to be seen. If the Impact hope to take points from the Red Bulls, they will need to contain the leagues top-scorer, something few MLS clubs have done this year. Wright-Phillips, who leads the league with 18 goals in 22 appearances, has scored against all Eastern Conference teams but two — D.C. United and the Impact. Wright-Phillips is one goal shy of tying the Red Bulls club record for most goals in a season. The 29-year-old, brother of Queens Park Rangers winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, has scored two hat tricks this year. New Yorks Wright-Phillips has scored more goals at home (11) than the entire Impact squad have scored on the road (8) this season. The Red Bulls also have the leagues best passer in Thierry Henry, whose 10 assists are one better than Los Angeles Robbie Keane. Because striker Jack McInerney has been left off the score sheet in his last seven matches, Montreals offensive hopes will likely rest on Di Vaio, who has scored four of Montreals last six goals. On top of being an MLS conference clash, Saturdays game will act as a dress rehearsal for the final two games of Montreals Champions League group stage. The Red Bulls will travel to Saputo Stadium on Sept. 17 before welcoming the Impact to New York on Oct. 22. Notes: New York is coming off a bye week. … Troy Perkins will likely get the start in net for Montreal. … The Red Bulls lost their last time out, 1-0 versus the Fire on the road. … Henry, whose four and a half-year contract with the Red Bulls expires at the end of the season, may be heading towards retirement. … The Impact have not reached the Champions League quarter-finals since their inaugural 2008-09 CCL campaign. Trey Hopkins Jersey . Thats how the Ravens won when Ryan was their defensive co-ordinator from 2005-08, and that is precisely the formula Baltimore used to beat Ryans New York Jets on Sunday. LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Canadian Andrew Wiggins exacted a little bit of revenge on Texas. So did the rest of the Kansas Jayhawks. On the eve of his 19th birthday, the freshman from Vaughan, Ont., put on a dazzling display of outside shooting and rim-rattling dunks. Wiggins finished with 21 points to lead the eighth-ranked Jayhawks to an 85-54 rout of No. 19 Texas, helping them seize control of the Big 12 race. It was a far different outcome than the first time the teams met, three weeks ago in Austin. Texas rolled to an 81-69 victory, and Wiggins managed seven points on 2-for-12 shooting. "We wanted to come out aggressive," Wiggins said. "Last time we got embarrassed at their place. We wanted to do the same thing to them, win every minute of every possession." They just about accomplished it. Joel Embiid added 13 points, seven rebounds and six blocks for the Jayhawks (21-6, 12-2), who lead the league race by three games with four to play. Kansas can wrap up at least a share of its 10th straight title when Oklahoma visits Allen Fieldhouse on Monday night. "That was our first goal to start the year off, to win a 10th straight Big 12 championship," said Frank Mason, who had 14 points off the bench. "Thats still our goal." Jonathan Holmes scored 17 points and Cameron Ridley had 11 for Texas, but they were about the only guys wearing burnt orange who seemed to solve the Jayhawks gritty man-to-man defence. Freshman guard Isaiah Taylor was held to just five points on 1-for-14 shooting, while Javan Felix was 2 of 9 from the field and finished with six points. "I talk about our guys not being as tough as wed like them to be, which were not, but they are prideful," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Texas whipped us down there the first time. I said all along this game wasnt about the league race as much as it was playing Texas." The game actually played out in similar fashion to the first meeting, only this time it was Kansas that played flawlessly and Texas that looked like a mess. After the Longhorns jumped out to an 8-3 lead, they managed jusst one field goal over an 11-minute stretch as the Jayhawks launched a 32-5 run that put the game away. Brandon LaFell Jersey. "They were really good, obviously, and you got to know after we played as well as we played against them the first time they were going to be ready to play," Texas coach Rick Barnes said. Wiggins led the way for Kansas, at one point scoring 12 points during a particularly brutal 14-0 spurt. He did it in dazzling fashion, too: There was the soaring fast-break dunk, the back-to-back 3-pointers, and the alley-oop jam off a pass from Wayne Selden Jr. that left the crowd roaring so loudly that the field house floor was shaking. "When I score early, it brings a lot of confidence to my game, especially when I hit a 3. I get on fire," Wiggins said. "My teammates did a good job of getting me the ball." By the time Connor Lammert finally hit a 3-pointer with about 5 minutes left in the half, the lead had ballooned to 28-13 and the Longhorns had exhausted nearly all their timeouts. "It can get away from you quick," Holmes said. "One or two possessions, you can look and youre down by six, eight and then 10 and then the game is over pretty much after that." Just how bad were the Longhorns in the first half? Try 6 of 29 from the field and 5 of 12 from the foul line, with five turnovers and three assists. They were dominated on the boards, dominated in the paint and, well, dominated just about everywhere else, too. Taylor, who had 23 points in the first meeting with Kansas, was 0 for 10 from the field as the Jayhawks built a 46-18 halftime advantage. And even when Texas managed to score -- as it did out of the break -- Kansas often answered with two buckets in return. It kept going like that throughout the second half as the Jayhawks outscored Texas 26-0 in transition and 38-22 in the paint, allowing them to empty their bench early. "I think we should give a refund to the fans," Barnes said. "Topeka YMCA probably would have given them a little better game, because we didnt give them a good game at all."
